Senior Farewell

The senior class of 2009 will be graduating from Delmarva Christian High School on Friday, May 29, 2009. This is a very exciting time for seniors. As seniors we are venturing into an entirely different world and leaving behind the comfort of DCHS. We have grown close to the students and staff at DCHS and have thousands of great memories. We are going to miss DCHS and are truly thankful for the education, life lessons, and the spiritual training that DCHS has provided. But like I said this is an exciting time. We now get to put into practice everything that we have learned. We get to go to college or the work force and mature into adults. Fresh opportunities are going to present themselves and we are ready to take advantage of them, in order to give God glory.

On behalf of the senior class I want to say thank you to anyone and everyone that we have come in contact with throughout our education at Delmarva Christian High School. I want to thank the board and administration for envisioning this great high school and putting forth time, energy, and finances to make DCHS a possibility. I think I speak for the entire senior class when I say, "I wouldn't want to go to high school anywhere but Delmarva Christian High School."

Thank You For Everything!

Dear Seniors,

we only had a couple of days to spend with you at school in August last year. Some of my German students were blessed to have full 3 weeks with you and your host families, though. I think I speak for everybody in my group if I say that we felt enriched to share those precious 3 weeks in and around Delmarva Christian High School meeting you wonderful and gifted young people dedicated to "achieve a higher spirit". We felt that these words are not only on paper but that you live true to them! Some of the seniors who were in my group will leave school in a couple of weeks (graduation is due on June 26), and I think they know full well what it's like to leave something special behind knowing that you have to get ready for whatever exciting may lie ahead. I and my group wish every single one of you (whether our paths crossed last year or not) all the best for the future! If any of you should ever seek fortune or love or whatever in Germany - you're always welcome (just let us know)!

Good bless you! Alex

To finish I enclose a translation of a poem by Hermann Hesse, a well-known German poet. It fits the occasion ... ("In all beginnings dwells a magic force ...")

Stages

As every flower fades and as all youth Departs,
so life at every stage,
So every virtue, so our grasp of truth,
Blooms in its day and may not last forever.
Since life may summon us at every age
Be ready, heart, for parting, new endeavor,
Be ready bravely and without remorse
To find new light that old ties cannot give.
In all beginnings dwells a magic force
For guarding us and helping us to live.

Serenely let us move to distant places
And let no sentiments of home detain us.
The Cosmic Spirit seeks not to restrain us
But lifts us stage by stage to wider spaces.
If we accept a home of our own making,
Familiar habit makes for indolence.
We must prepare for parting and leave-taking
Or else remain the slaves of permanence.

Even the hour of our death may send
Us speeding on to fresh and newer spaces,
And life may summon us to newer races.
So be it, heart: bid farewell without end.
