Winter Chill

On my way into school this morning the temperature read 31 degrees! Can you believe that it is already winter?

We are well into our second marking period of this semester. I want to encourage my fellow students to keep working hard until the end of this semester. Give 100% all the way through your high school career so that you can be proud of your transcript when you are applying to college, as I am now.

I have a few things that I would like to bring to your attention.
  • Tuesday the 25th of November there will be no lunch order from the Georgia House, therefore you must pack your lunch or bring money for the machines.
  • I would also like to remind you that there is NO SCHOOL November 26-28 in order to celebrate Thanksgiving!
  • The day we return form Thanksgiving break, which is December 1st, all J-term selections must be finalized. Anyone who wishes to change their J-term course must have that completed by December 1st.
  • IMPORTANT: Anyone who is interning during this J-term must have their contracts and list of competencies completed and handed in by the 1st.

J-term is a great opportunity and privilege we have here at DCHS. We are able to take mission trips, special courses, and explore career fields. The administration and office staff works very hard to assist each student, so please do your part in making their jobs easier.

I told you guys last week that the SLC was going to a conference. We are leaving today at 12:30 so I would like to remind you to please pray for us while we are there.

Thanks and remember to wash your hands so you don't get sick :)

Recap

Return to the Community Day was a great success last week. Thank you to everyone that helped plan and execute the wonderful day of service. Make sure that you fill out your community service logs so that you get credit for your service hours.

November 19th through the 21st the SLC will be attending a Leadership Conference. These days will be jammed packed with speakers, planning sessions, skill workshops, and times of praise and worship. This conference allows the SLC to regroup and focus on the latter half of our school year. We hope to iron out some plans for upcoming events. Our theme for this year has been "Strive For Excellence". We are really looking forward to this conference. Last year we made a goal to have more male leadership in our school, and this year we have eight guys on the SLC compared  to last year's five. On behalf of the entire SLC I ask that you would pray for us while we are on this trip, so that we will truly listen to what God's will is for our school.

Today our chapel was very good. Anthony Richards, from Ocho Rios Jamaica, spoke on resisting temptation. He named five ways that you can resist the devil's temptations.

1. Recognize people or situations that bring trouble.
2. Run from wrong (It is easier to be drawn in then to walk away. Don't test yourself on how strong you are. Our only strength is through Him.)
3. Choose to do what is right
4. Pray for God's help
5. Seek friends who love God and can offer help when you are being tempted.

I would also like to open this blog for chapel requests. If you have song ideas, speaker requests, and any other kind of ideas or constructive criticism please feel free to share.

Thanks :)

Open Gym and Bible Study

Hebrews 12:1-2

"Therefore, since we are surrounded by such a huge crowd of witnesses to the life of faith, let us strip off every weight that slows us down, especially the sin that so easily trips us up. And let us run with endurance the race God has set before us. We do this by keeping our eyes on Jesus, the champion who initiates and perfects our faith. Because of the joy awaiting him, he endured the cross, disregarding its shame."

Athletics are found in the Bible several times. I like this verse because it is a metaphor used to explain how we should lead a Christian life. Basically as Christians we need to turn our sins over to God and not dwell on them. We need to ask God for endurance to go through the tough times. and we need to always keep our eyes on Jesus, who died so we might live.

Athletics and the Bible my two favorite things! So here are the open gym and Bible study dates.
